Who is the Squadron Air Officer Commanding?

The Squadron Air Officer Commanding is the officer responsible for mentoring and supervising cadets in a squadron, handling daily training, discipline, and development under the squadron’s leadership. This role is typically filled by a field-grade officer at a level that reflects hands-on cadet leadership and day-to-day oversight, without moving into higher-level command duties. Among the options, a major fits that expectation best, providing the right balance of experience and authority to guide the squadron effectively. The other ranks shown are generally tied to higher-level command or broader responsibilities that exceed the scope of a single squadron’s AOC.
