Space systems and national security require expertise in designing, building, and operating spacecraft and the networks that support them. A cadet pursuing space operations would learn mission planning, satellite operations, space domain awareness, and how to defend space assets. Aerospace engineering provides the engineering foundation—propulsion, guidance, structures, and systems integration—needed to create reliable space vehicles and systems. These paths directly support national security by enabling and safeguarding space capabilities. Other fields like fine arts, culinary arts, or marine biology align with different career goals and don’t fit the technical and operational needs of space systems and defense.
